Brown is a senior level executive with extensive hospitality industry experience and a solid understanding of corporate finance and management who possesses keen insight into financial structuring. Over the past 16 years, his key industry accomplishments include spearheading IPO efforts, negotiating and structuring acquisitions and mergers, and financing activities. Mr. Brown joined Starwood Lodging Trust, the predecessor entity of Starwood Hotels & Resort, in August 1995 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer with responsibility for equity and debt financing activities, cash management, and oversight of SEC, accounting and tax compliance. In March 1998, Mr. Brown was named to the newly created position of Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., and will continue to oversee all accounting, tax and SEC compliance, equity and debt financing activities, cash management and insurance for the Corporation. Prior to joining the Trust, Mr. Brown was President of Sonoran Hotel Advisors, a hotel REIT advisory firm. From 1990 to 1994, Mr. Brown was with Doubletree Corporation, a public hotel operating company, where he served in a number of corporate management positions including Executive Vice President Finance and Planning. Chairman of Doubletree Hotels Corporation, and eventually President of Doubletree Corporation. During his tenure he successfully negotiated and completed the merger of Doubletree Hotels, a 60-hotel management company and Guest Quarters Suite Hotels, a 40-hotel management company; led Doubletree Corporation`s successful initial public offering and saw shareholder value increase from $65 million to over $400 million. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and CFO of Canadian Pacific Hotels & Resorts, where he implemented growth in assets of $300 million to over one billion through acquisitions and capital expenditures, including the acquisitions of CN Hotels ($265 million) and Doubletree Hotels ($65 million). Mr. Brown holds an LLM for the London School of Economics and an LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, Canada. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Phoenix Children`s Hospital.
