Iran warned the European Union on Saturday it would never surrender its right to nuclear fuel, talking tough only two weeks before EU diplomats are due to present final proposals to break Iran's atomic impasse. Tehran says it has every right to enrich the uranium it mines in its central deserts into fuel for nuclear power stations but Washington argues this fuel is destined for atomic warheads.

biggest powers on the future of Tehran's nuclear program are near
collapse as Iran threatens to resume sensitive atomic activities,
European diplomats said on
Wednesday.
"Based on the (November) Paris agreement, we agreed if negotiations do not reach a result after three months, the talks will end. We are now at this stage and will make decisions soon, " he added. Iran insists its nuclear programme will only be used to generate electricity and has rejected EU and U.S. calls for it to abandon for ever plans to produce its own nuclear fuel by enriching uranium. Iran's nuclear fuel activities, including enrichment, are currently suspended while talks with the EU continue.

activities while both sides tried to negotiate a long-term solution
regarding Iran's atomic ambitions.
VIENNA, Dec 23 (AFP) The European Union and Iran are to hold new nuclear talks on January 18, diplomats said Friday, confirming the actual date for a meeting announced on Wednesday. "The meeting will be on January 18 in Vienna, " said a Middle Eastern diplomat close to the talks, in which the West is asking Iran to cease nuclear fuel work in order to guarantee that it will not make atomic weapons.

weekend it would resume some work related to enrichment, a process
of purifying uranium to use in nuclear power
plants or atomic weapons.
"Our deadline for suspending nuclear work was the EU proposal. We will wait until the first days of August but will restart activities right afterwards, " Khatami told reporters. EU diplomats said the European offer was predicated on Iran agreeing to maintain indefinitely its suspension of uranium enrichment, nuclear fuel reprocessing and related activities. Proliferation Treaty, meant to prevent the spread of atomic weapons while allowing civilian nuclear work, and wants to be allowed to keep at least a pilot enrichment programme.

unacceptable" to the Europeans.

of all uranium enrichment and plutonium reprocessing activities and
