Ubisoft Opens Up Shop In Quebec

Private Equity Fund Of Funds Ubisoft, one of the worlds leading videogame publishers announced yesterday that they had officially opened the doors to their new studio located in Quebec City.

The new studio will start off with a total of seventy five jobs for the year, but Ubisoft intends to invest around 75 million Canadian dollars and create 200 jobs in the next five years.

Martin Tremblay, President and Chief Operating Officer of Ubisoft Canada spoke highly of the new location and its new Vice President and General Manager, Nicolas Rioux.

"We are in Quebec City for its talent and its dynamic nature. Our objective is to build a studio where creativity and technological know how will come together to create world class games. Nicolas is an experienced video game development manager, known for his vision and leadership. I'm confident that he'll quickly make our Quebec City studio an international leader, able to take on the most ambitious projects," Tremblay stated.

Rioux added his own enthusiastic comments on the new development studio and his new job. "This is the start of an exciting adventure for Ubisoft in Quebec City. Ubisoft has a reputation for developing high quality, breakthrough games. Our new studio will pursue this same successful approach. Starting right away, we'll work on innovative projects based on strong licenses, using the latest technologies."

Ubisoft has recently been the target of speculation regarding a possible buyout by Electronic Arts, though the company has vowed to put up a defense to any hostile takeover attempts by EA. Ubisoft announced in February their intention to invest 700 million Canadian dollars over five years and create 1000 new jobs by 2010.
