NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 11, 2004--Dow Jones & Company
(NYSE: DJ) today reported April advertising volumes for its leading
print publications.
Private Equity Fund Of Funds Advertising linage, or volume, at The Wall Street Journal's U.S.
edition increased 7.5% in April, with year-to-date linage up 6.6%
(up 5.4% on a per issue basis). In the general advertising category
at the Journal, April linage increased 14.5% on strong gains in
travel, auto, insurance, professional services and health care
advertising. In the Journal's technology category, linage decreased
30.6% in April with a modest increase in software advertising
offset by declines in each other major technology ad category. The
Journal's financial advertising increased 29.7% in April on strong
gains in wholesale financial and tombstone advertising, which were
partially offset by declines in retail financial advertising.
Classified/Other linage increased 13.7% on gains in both real
estate and other classified advertising.
At Barron's, national advertising pages increased 53.7% in April,
with year-to-date pages up 29.6%, driven by strong increases in
financial and auto advertising.
In 2004, only 5% of companies conduct no internal pay equity surveys.

Curve Equity Exposed Fund Internationally, The Wall Street Journal Europe's linage
increased 68.9% in April, with year-to-date linage up 24.1% (up
22.6% on a per issue basis). The Asian Wall Street Journal's linage
increased 12.6%, with year-to-date linage up 8.9% (up 7.5% on a per
issue basis). Increases in the general, financial and classified
advertising categories were the primary factors for the increase in
advertising in April for both the European and Asian Journal.
Viridian, the holding company for Northern Ireland's electricity, is in talks over a .62billion bid by Bahraini private equity firm Arcapita Bank.
Equity Income Funds At Ottaway Newspapers, same property advertising linage rose
8.5% on increases in auto, real estate and other classified
advertising. Year-to-date total linage at Ottaway was up 5.4% on a
same property basis.
